Dear Delegates of the 15th Conference of State Parties to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,    

It is with sadness that we report that our fellow Council member John Rae passed away suddenly on the afternoon of April 8^th in Toronto.

John was living his best life this past week going to a music concert, eating out with friends and attending a labour conference.

Bonne Journée internationales à toutes! Rien ne serait plus propice en effet que de profiter de ce centième anniversaire de la JIF pour souligner les réalisations des femmes handicapées. Il n’y a pas très longtemps, ces femmes étaient invisibles au sein de la société ainsi que chez les défenseurs des droits des personnes avec des limitations fonctionnelles et chez les défenseurs de l’égalité des sexes.

While celebrating the contribution of all women, we draw particular attention to women with disabilities who also contend with ableism and other forms of intersecting discrimination related to their particular identities.

The Executive and Council of CCD has, since June 2020, worked on modernizing our policies, practices and systems, as well as strengthening our ability to play a meaningful, strategic and convening role as a human rights advocacy organization in the disability community. We have new work groups, committees and volunteers who are picking up the workload on finances, human resources, technology, and governance. Our human rights, social policy, international and transportation teams continue their work.

Le Conseil des Canadiens avec déficiences (CCD) se réjouit de l’arrivée d’Ingrid Palmer comme administratrice de son Conseil national des représentants. « Ingrid apporte une variété d’expériences et de connaissances de la collectivité des personnes en situation de handicap, a déclaré Heather Walkus, présidente du CCD par intérim. »

The Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) welcomes Ingrid Palmer as a Member-at-Large to our National Council of Representatives.  “Ingrid brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from the disability community,” states Heather Walkus, Acting Chair.

“My commitment is to amplify the voices and experiences of persons with disabilities who are Black and Racialized and who have not sufficiently been represented at many tables” said Palmer.

Le Conseil des Canadiens avec déficiences annonce le départ de Roxana Jahani Aval, présidente du Conseil national des représentants, élue en 2020.  Mme Jahani Aval, qui est en 3ème année de droit, a démissionné de son poste en octobre.   L’Association nationale des étudiant(e)s handicap(e)s du niveau postsecondaire (NEADS) l’avait auparavant nommée représentante auprès du CCD.
