Le point sur la contestation fondée sur la Charte du Mental Health Act de la C.B.
En septembre 2016, le CCD a contesté, en se fondant sur la Charte, les lois de la Colombie britannique empêchant les patients en placement non volontaire d’accepter ou de refuser un traitement psychiatrique. En Colombie britannique, les médecins ne sont pas légalement tenus d’évaluer la capacité de leurs patients à prendre des décisions thérapeutiques, avant de leur imposer un traitement psychiatrique contre leur gré.
Update on the Charter Challenge to BC's Mental Health Act
In September 2016, CCD filed a Charter challenge to the laws in British Columbia that prevent involuntary psychiatric patients from agreeing to or refusing psychiatric treatment. Doctors in BC are not legally required to assess whether these patients are capable of making treatment decisions before forcing psychiatric treatment against their will. This approach reinforces harmful stereotypes by equating mental illness with being incapable.

Appuyons la reconnaissance de l'ASL/LSQ par le Canada
Le 22 septembre 2018, la collectivité des Sourds du Canada a organisé une Journée de sensibilisation pour la reconnaissance de l’ASL/LSQ. La manifestation s’est déroulée sur la Colline parlementaire à Ottawa et le CCD a été très honoré d’avoir été invité à y participer.
Supporting Recognition of ASL/LSQ by Canada
On September 22, 2018, Canada’s Deaf community organized ASL/LSQ Recognition Awareness Day! There was a rally on Parliament Hill and it was an honour for the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD) to be invited to participate in the Ottawa event.
CCD, which includes the Canadian Association of the Deaf as a member, fully supports Deaf Canadians’ call for ASL/LSQ to be recognized as official Canadian languages, because freedom of expression is a human right. For Deaf Canadians, ASL/LSQ are essential to the freedom of expression.
