Canadians Should not be Provided Public Support to Kill Themselves

“It’s not worse than death, and people who are misled into believing it will be should not be offered public support to kill themselves”, say two leading disability rights organizations who will be opposing attempts to strike down statutory provisions designed to prevent counselling or assisting anyone, disabled or not, to die.

In January 2013, Stuart Murray CEO of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) announced the Museum had embraced an approach to inclusive design that would set new standards for universal accessibility. Si l’on peut louer le fait que Postes Canada ait reconnu le besoin d’accommoder les personnes handicapées pour qui les boîtes postales communautaires constituent un obstacle, il faut aussi avouer que l’imposition d’un billet du médecin pour obtenir cet accommodement ne fera qu’alourdir la complexité de l’accès aux services.
A Doctor's Note for Home Mail Delivery

While it is positive that Canada Post is recognizing the need to accommodate people with disabilities for whom the community mail box will be a barrier, having to get a doctor's note to qualify for the accommodation adds an extra layer of complexity to accessing a community service.
