CCD Will Testify Before Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities about Recent Changes Announced by Canada Post

Ottawa, 18 December 2013 - Today, Bob Brown and Roy Hanes, representatives of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD), will appear before the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities (3:00 pm – 4:00 pm in Room C-110, 1 Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON) to discuss Canada Post's announced changes to services.

December 11th and 12th, 2013.   Well these two days are almost over and I must say they were challenging and exciting.  It began with providing final comment to CCD’s legal brief to the Supreme Court of Canada regarding the Appellants opposition to our intervention in the Carter case (assisted suicide).    Our legal team at bakerlaw have been great, responding to short time lines, balancing some challenging issues, and responding strongly to protect the interests of vulnerable people in regard to any change in the Criminal Code prohibition on assisted sui

Le CCD, une organisation nationale de personnes handicapées,  craint que  la proposition de Postes Canada de mettre fin au service postal à domicile ne lèse les personnes en situation de handicap.  La livraison dans des boîtes postales communautaires est inadéquate pour les personnes malvoyantes ou à mobilité réduite : elles devront alors dépendre de leur famille ou de leurs amis pour récupérer  leur courrier.
